Employee Eva Kordes is seriously injured in a robbery at a Viennese jewelry store. The second clerk is shot. Inspector Brandtner and Böck discover that the jeweler's alibi is not watertight. He tries to escape.

A truck driver involved in illegal business is gunned down. Just before he dies, he makes a confession. Inspector Brandtner cannot persuade the priest to break the seal of confession, even though he is in danger.

The highly indebted former drug addict Anton robs a bank. He shoots a man. Brandtner, Böck and Rex observe the events from the air as they are flying in a hot air balloon. After landing, Anton disappeared without a trace.
