

The season introduced several new characters, such as Jake Puckerman, Marley Rose, Kitty Wilde, Hunter Clarington, and winner and runner up of The Glee Project, Ryder Lynn and Betty Pillsbury respectively, it also counts with the return of Unique Adams. New characters were introduced as the plot focuses on the new generation of the New Directions due to the loss of several members after graduation. The plot also focuses on Rachel's college experience in New York as well as what the rest of the alumni are doing after graduation.

The New Rachel
Rachel begins school at NYADA, where she meets junior Brody Weston (Dean Geyer) and starts classes with a tough dance instructor, Cassandra July (Kate Hudson). Brittany is depressed, and turns to her namesake Britney Spears for inspiration. Rachel continues to struggle in adjusting to life at NYADA and in New York, but gets help from new friend and classmate Brody. Puck meets Jake for the first time, when Will calls him.

Kurt gets an internship in New York at Vogue.com, working for Isabelle Wright (Sarah Jessica Parker). At McKinley High, Blaine runs against Brittany for president and wins. Rachel starts to warm up to her new classmate Brody inviting him to her and Kurt's apartment, but Finn shows up unexpectedly.

The relationships of four of the couples are tested – Will and Emma, Rachel and Finn, Kurt and Blaine, and Santana and Brittany but only one of them will survive.
The Role You Were Born to Play
The McKinley High production of "Grease" is being cast, and Artie recruits McKinley graduates Mercedes and Mike to help out with auditions. Competitors for the lead role of Danny include Jake and football player Ryder Lynn, while Marley and cheerleader Kitty are rivals for Sandy, the female lead. Will also has a big decision to make.

Romantic tension builds between Marley and two of the glee club's males, Jake and Ryder. Blaine checks in on the Warblers.
Thanksgiving
It's time for sectionals, and New Directions receives guidance from some of the recent McKinley graduates who volunteer to mentor the glee club during their Thanksgiving break. Meanwhile, Rachel and Kurt have a non-traditional holiday dinner in the Big Apple.
Swan Song
Finn thinks about his future with the glee club after sectionals are over. Elsewhere, Rachel gets ready for NYADA's winter showcase; and Kurt gets a second chance at an audition.
Glee, Actually
A tribute to the film "Love, Actually" with five different storylines all dealing with the holidays. Sam and Brittany live as if it's the end of the world as the Mayans know it. The Puckermans, including half-brothers Puck and Jake and their mothers, come together for Chanukah. Artie suffers a head injury in which he slips on ice and has an epiphany through a dream sequence. He wonders what may have happened if he was never in a wheelchair and glee club never formed. His black-and-white vision has Rory as his guardian angel, reminding him of who he was to the glee club. Kurt spends Christmas with Blaine and his father in New York, whilst discovering his father has prostate cancer. Sue struggles to get a Secret Santa present for Marley's mother, Millie, but has a change of heart after seeing Marley and Millie struggle.
Sadie Hawkins
McKinley’s Sadie Hawkins dance offers several gleeks a rare chance to feel empowered. Sam and Blaine investigate a possible cheating scandal at sectionals. Kurt makes a new friend at NYADA.
Naked
New Directions produces a sexy calendar to raise money for their trip to Regionals. Rachel is faced with a personal dilemma when she’s cast in a student film. Finn and Sue go toe-to-toe.
Diva
Finn encourages the glee-club members to channel their inner divas. Elsewhere, Rachel's arrogance causes Kurt to reach a breaking point; and Emma throws herself into wedding preparations.

Will and Emma get ready for their Valentine's Day wedding with the help of past and present New Directions members.
