The disaster
On a sunny day in Enschede, a fire in a fireworks storage facility creates unexpected fireworks in the clear sky. Residents flock to watch. The fire brigade struggles to deal with the chaos and an inexperienced police officer helps where he can, but is it enough? The question arises: who is going to get out of this alive?
As the dust settles
As the initial shock of the disaster sets in, survivors search for missing relatives and friends. Sunny fears for her father's fate, while Ryanne realises she is to blame for the explosion. The mayor tries to control the situation, but cannot get a grip on reality. Meanwhile, an investigation is also launched into the perpetrator.
The aftershock
Several months after the disaster, the aftershocks begin to show. Ryanne fights a charge of culpable homicide, Maurice faces a hellish dilemma and Sunny realises that her father may never be found again. Meanwhile, pressure grows on the mayor.
Through hell
A year after the disaster, the wounds are still palpable. While many try to pick up life, not everyone succeeds. Indeed, as the commemoration is being prepared, some realise that the battle is far from over, and police officer Paul unexpectedly gets a relive of that particular afternoon.
