Balthazar lives happily, far from his troubles and from the police who hunt him, still convinced of his responsibility in the murders perpetrated by his brother. But Balthazar's peace of mind is shattered when he learns that Camille, Delgado and Olivia have lost their jobs because of their help during his escape and their failure to stop a bloodthirsty criminal raging in Paris, The Puppeteer.

Balthazar is stuck at home awaiting the judges' decision and spies on his neighbors to fill his boredom. At the same time, in Paris, a nightmare erupts: a figure in a duck mask kills three random passers-by.

Balthazar is back at the IML with his daughter, whom he has on his hands for forty-eight hours until she is placed. To keep busy he autopsies an old lady, only to have a surprise discovery.

A pensioner bus is found empty in a field, the passengers vanished. The driver speaks of a bright white light and in the field the investigators discover a huge crop circle.

A family is executed on a highway rest area. Balthazar discovers the family is not what it appears.

Camille learns that Maya has just escaped from prison thanks to Alexandre. The infernal duo is back. What do they want?
