After having success in Asia, businessman Aksel Borgen is asked back to his hometown in Norway to save an important local firm despite it being 20 years since he was sentenced and later acquitted for murdering his high school sweetheart.

Aksel will have to stay in Lifjord until he finds a new leader for Solar Tech. A conflict arises in the Hansteen family and Lars' loyalty to his mother is tested when he is offered the job as CEO. Aksel's family was hit hard when he disappeared and he is trying to fix things. Tonje seems to be Aksel's only friend in the village.

When Angeline and her son Tim came to Lifjord, Aksel had no choice but to tell her about Tonje, Karine and his past, but he omitted some parts of it. Everything is fine for Solar Tech, but when Lars makes a mistake, Aksel asks Angeline for help. Eva looks for evidences that the police may have missed, something that can lead the investigation towards Aksel.

After receiving revealing images of Karine, Aksel wants to find the killer. Solar Tech must fire some employees and Lars will be forced dismiss his friends. Eva continues to look for evidences against Aksel, and now she doubts about Tonje's testimony. And the more Aksel looking for Karine's killer, the more people think he is guilty.
Settlement
Aksel is still looking for the person who took the nude photos of Karine. His suspicions towards Per Olav increase when Aksel finds out he is beating his girlfriend, Åse.

Aksel discovers more people have been lying to him about the night of the murder. He is deeply conflicted and determined to leave Lifjord, but for his son's sake, he decides to believe in his own innocence.

The police are searching for Aksel’s bloody t-shirt from 20 years ago. Aksel still can’t remember anything from the night Karine died, but confesses to the murder anyway.

As Aksel reconciles with his past and hometown, Angeline returns to Lifjord. Tonje and Aksel are still caught up in an affair, and Aksel realises that he's going to be forced to choose between his two lives.
