The Next Step Season 5 (2017)

The Next Step holds auditions, welcoming prospective new dancers to the studio. The new studio head makes some surprising cuts that throw the future of veteran A-Troupers into question. The fallout from auditions forces Michelle to examine her place at the studio, and make some hard decisions. Meanwhile, the arrival of a new dancer might spell trouble for Noah and Henry's friendship.

Michelle, dissatisfied with Emily's dance studio philosophy, starts her own team, TNS West, and discovers some surprising new talent. Meanwhile, Noah tries to help Piper adjust to dancing under Emily's new direction at TNS East.

A self-trained dancer, Kingston, must prove himself to keep his spot on Michelle's new troupe. Over at TNS East, Richelle gets a pleasant surprise, and questions the motives of a new dancer Lola, who seems intent on becoming her best friend. Since Amy never told her mum she was cut from A-Troupe, she needs Piper's help to cover for her.

TNS East hires a guest choreographer, Leon Blackwood, to teach a hip-hop workshop. But when TNS West shows up to join in, the divide between the two troupes grows even deeper. As Noah and Jacquie's connection becomes obvious, Henry is forced to make a tough decision.

After being assigned a duet, Noah struggles to find the chemistry onstage with Richelle because of his feelings for Jacquie. LaTroy, Henry and Amy try to play a prank on Ozzy, who teaches his teammates a lesson. Amy's mum discovers that Amy has been lying about being on A-Troupe, and Amy's worst fears may come true.

Piper's determination to help Amy get on to A-Troupe has a surprising outcome. Things start to heat up with Noah and Jacquie, while Kingston and Ozzy try to take Henry's mind off his troubles.

TNS West needs two more dancers to round out their team, and Piper thinks she may have found the perfect new recruit. Jacquie worries that Noah is being a little too public about their relationship and begins to question whether she wants to date a teammate. When Zara shows up late to practice, Josh notices she is being evasive and calls her out.

In order to raise funds for a potential new dancer who can't afford competitive dance, TNS West throws a dance-a-thon fundraiser, which is attended by some exciting guest stars. Noah wants to support his friends at TNS West, but Jacquie isn't so sure they should be fraternizing with the enemy. As Lola and Richelle become better friends, Lola tricks Richelle into loosening up.

In advance of the TNS East/West face-off to determine which troupe will represent the studio at regionals, Michelle's troupe gets their tenth and final dancer. Michelle thinks her dreams have come true, but her new member could turn out to be her worst nightmare. Eldon double-books himself as choreographer for TNS East and West, and struggles to keep his commitment to both. Things between Lola and Jacquie get complicated when their team's featured soloist is chosen.

When TNS East and TNS West have a dance-off to determine home studio advantage for the coming battle, Elliot reveals his true colours. The love triangle between Henry, Noah and Jacquie reaches a breaking point. A surprising move by Michelle elicits a shocking decision from one of the Next Step's top dancers.

Emily has a secret weapon in the dance battle to determine which troupe will get to represent The Next Step at regionals. Josh has to choose between his loyalty to his friend and his team. When Noah and Jacquie face off, Noah sees a new side of her personality.

Kingston and Ozzy think there's something suspicious about Elliot's generosity, and discover he's hiding a shocking secret. LaTroy is given the opportunity of a lifetime, but if he chooses to take it, it will mean leaving the studio. In the wake of the results of the dance battle, Noah and Jacquie struggle with the fact that only one of them can go to regionals.

When the tensions between TNS East and TNS West reach an all-time high, Miss Kate is forced to make a drastic decision. In the aftermath, dancers struggle to pick up the pieces. Noah and Jacquie rise above the conflict, and deepen their relationship.

Piper and Amy develop a secret plan to get back on the road to regionals. Jacquie is tempted to leave the studio when she gets an offer that's hard to refuse. A visit from Josh's brother wreaks havoc on Josh's future at the studio. Kingston, in his quest to become a better dancer, enlists Lola's help to conquer a new challenge.

Piper and Amy's secret plan is put into action, as the dancers rally to unite the studios under one banner. Amy's future at the studio is threatened when her mother makes a difficult demand. Emily and Michelle are forced to face their shortcomings.

With the troupe united, it's time to elect a new dance captain. Piper helps Amy to find the strength she needs to finally have an honest conversation with her mother. Heather is asked to perform a task for Emily, but is tempted to bail on it when she sees a chance to be one of the gang.

Josh's brother shows up at the studio unannounced with some surprising news. When Zara realizes her split focus is affecting her chances at a coveted solo, she is forced to choose between her two passions. Heather and Piper feel their lack of hip-hop skills could hurt the team, so they enlist Henry's help to turn things around.

A last-second change of plans threatens The Next Step's chances of qualifying for regionals, and Ozzy struggles to step up to the challenge. When Richelle encounters a difficult hurdle, Lola feels pressure to stay loyal to her friend. Piper is surprised by some new feelings for an old friend.

Lola and Richelle's friendship is threatened when Lola tries to keep Richelle from making the biggest mistake of her life. Noah's role as dance captain puts him at odds with Jacquie and puts pressure on their relationship. Ozzy is terrified he has ruined the team's shot at regionals.

TNS is recording its regionals qualifier video. With the deadline imminent, everything must go according to plan. Richelle makes a horrifying discovery that could ruin the video and put her dance career at risk. As Piper's feelings for a fellow dancer grow, she works up the courage to ask him out.
