Ray McNeil was a former United States Marine and professional body builder. He was a Mr. Olympia competitor. McNeil was murdered on February 14, 1995 by his wife, also a body builder, Sally McNeil. The trial for his murder became a national story, as Sally claimed McNeil was abusing her and she shot him in self- defense. While evidence came to light that McNeil had abused Sally, it was determined that the murder was not in self-defense. Sally was found guilty of second degree murder in 1996 and sentenced to 19 years to life.
